New Training Course: Safe Handling of Diisocyanates

 

Do you work with sealant, adhesive, varnish, paint, or other products that contain diisocyanates? If so, both the person handling the products and the person supervising the work must have the proper training.

Kravkompetens is now launching the training course “Safe Handling of Diisocyanates” —for companies that want to create a safer work environment and meet the training requirements for professional use.

When is training required?

As of August 24, 2023, appropriate training is required prior to the industrial or professional use of products containing diisocyanates at a concentration of 0.1 percent by weight or more.

The requirements apply to common substances such as MDI, TDI, HDI, and IPDI, among others. You can find information about the product’s contents in the safety data sheet, typically in sections 3 and 15. If you’re unsure whether your products are covered, contact your supplier.

Who needs to take this course?

The educational requirement includes both:

• employees who actively handle diisocyanates
• supervisors and others who oversee the work

Anyone who handles only unopened original packages is generally not subject to this requirement.

That is why education is important

Diisocyanates can pose a risk of allergies, asthma, and other respiratory problems, among other things. The right knowledge will help you assess the risks, choose appropriate protective measures, and work more safely in practice.

Upon completion and successful completion of the training, the participant must be able to demonstrate their knowledge with a certificate of completion. The employer is responsible for documenting the completion of the training and for ensuring that it is repeated every five years.
