What is thermoset plastic?

Thermosetting plastic is a general term for plastic materials that, through a chemical reaction, cure permanently to form a very strong and stable material. Once the curing process is complete, the material generally cannot be remelted or reshaped. It is not the fully cured plastic that typically poses the greatest risk, but rather the chemical components present before and during the curing process.

This training is intended for individuals who manage, plan, or perform work involving thermosetting plastics or allergenic chemical products. Examples include floor installers, painters, construction workers, mechanics, automotive and industrial technicians, composite technicians, nail technicians, eyelash stylists, supervisors, and occupational health and safety officers.

The course is conducted entirely online via e-learning. You study at your own pace whenever it suits you and can use a computer, tablet, or smartphone. After passing the final exam, you will receive a digital course certificate.

Once you've registered, you'll have access to the course for 365 days. During this time, you can review the course material and take the final exam when you feel ready.

Training may be required when working with, for example, epoxy, diisocyanates, acrylates, methacrylates, cyanoacrylates, formaldehyde resins, and organic acid anhydrides. These substances may be found in, among other things, adhesives, caulk, paint, varnish, floor compounds, spackle, composite materials, and products for nail and eyelash treatments.

The employer must check the product's labeling and safety data sheet and conduct a risk assessment for the work in question.
