Who is online fall protection training aimed at?
If you work at a height of more than two metres or are a supervisor for work carried out at higher heights, it is important that you have undergone fall protection training. Falling accidents are one of the most common types of accidents at workplaces in Sweden and are particularly common at construction sites.
According to health and safety legislation, it is compulsory for anyone who carries out construction work at heights of more than 2 metres, where there is a risk of falling, to have undergone fall protection training.
Failure to provide fall protection at heights above 2 metres can result in fines of SEK 400 000.
The training follows the Swedish Work Environment Authority's regulations based on, among other things, AFS 2001:3 § use of personal protective equipment. It is important that the employer ensures that the information given to the employee about the equipment is understood correctly. Background
As a member of the European Union (EU), Sweden must transpose EC directives into Swedish regulations. The EU's rules for workers' safety and health are set out in a framework directive that provides the basic rules for safety and health at work. A number of specific directives also set minimum requirements that must not be exceeded in the EU member states. The third individual directive (89/656/EEC) lays down requirements for the use of personal protective equipment by workers at work. The regulations on the use of personal protective equipment are based on this directive. Examples of personal protective equipment that may well be used by different people include fall protection equipment. This requires training in fall protection.

It is also important that workers performing the work have received specific information and appropriate training for the work to be carried out, including the specific risks this may involve. Failure to provide documentation of the training may result in the employer being fined. In this case, the penalty must be paid for each worker who cannot prove that he or she has the training required for the work in question.
