About the Fall Protection Training Online course

In Sweden, falls account for about one in three workplace accidents, which means it is also by far the most common type of accident on construction sites. Falls are also one of the most common causes of death in the workplace. We offer Fall Protection Theory safety training, which is a fall protection training course in English.

Work environment legislation requires that everyone who carries out construction work at a height of 2 meters or more and where there is a risk of falling must have training in fall protection. This is a general course and covers several different types of fall protection.

The training follows the regulations of the Swedish Work Environment Authority and the EU Directive. The course is a fall protection course in English.

Background

As a member of the European Union (EU), Sweden must transpose EC directives into Swedish regulations. The EU's rules for workers' safety and health are set out in a framework directive that provides the basic rules for safety and health at work. A number of specific directives also set minimum requirements that must not be exceeded in the EU member states. The third individual directive (89/656/EEC) lays down requirements for the use of personal protective equipment by workers at work. The regulations on the use of personal protective equipment are based on this directive. Examples of personal protective equipment that may well be used by different people include fall protection equipment. This requires training in fall protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

You ask, we answer. Don't hesitate to call or chat with us if you have more questions.

According to AFS 1999:3 57-58 §, the risk of the employee falling to a lower level must be prevented. Where necessary, guard rails, work platforms, work baskets or scaffolding must be used. If guard rails or equipment cannot be used due to the nature of the work, personal fall protection equipment must be used.

Fall protection training is a requirement for anyone working at a height of two metres or higher where there is a risk of falling.

The course should be repeated every three years.

We recommend a review every three years based on the Work Environment Act, which emphasises that employers must ensure that employees have the right skills for their work. This is so that you can keep up to date with any changes in regulations the course is based on. Such as AFS 2001:3.

However, there is no general requirement to repeat fall protection training after three years in legislation or regulations in Sweden. It is up to the employer to decide when and how often training should be repeated, based on the specific requirements and risks at the workplace.

On the other hand, under the Work Environment Act, the employer is obliged to ensure that the work is organised in such a way that employees are protected against accidents and ill-health. This includes ensuring that workers have the necessary training and knowledge to perform their tasks safely, including fall protection training if relevant to the workplace.

When choosing fall protection, you need to consider:

  • What kind of work you will do.
  • Possible working methods with a focus on the best working environment and safety.
  • How to get up and down to the workplace. What the workplace looks like (height, gradient, load-bearing capacity, etc.).
  • How long the work will take.
  • How many people will be working there, are you one or several contractors.
  • Need for barriers.
After you have completed your order, you can start the course directly with the password you have chosen on the checkout page. If you order for other participants, the login will be sent to their email directly.

The use of personal fall protection equipment is ALWAYS a last resort when working with fall hazards, except when shoveling snow. Use of personal fall protection equipment poses risks
of falling and hanging, with risk of injury.

A fall can cause great stress to the body and requires a plan to rescue a person who falls quickly.

Since a person who falls can suffer circulatory problems, rescue is required within about 15 minutes. Work with personal protective equipment must never be done alone.

There are different fall arrest systems available for use with harnesses:
- fall arrest line
- safety block with fall arrest function
- controlled slide lock on fixed anchorage line or rail or
- controlled slide lock on flexible anchorage line.
